Working in mixed media, Abramovich’s process begins by texturizing the canvas itself. His work arises through the pleasurable aggression of applying media to a surface until a form is revealed through color and texture. The first instinctual marks inspire the composition, which may then emerge through mazes of ink lines, knife cuts, pin striping, drips, and working with metallic pigments in palates ranging from earthy to electric. Resulting in work that is primitive, but highly detailed, textured and organic, with stylized lines. Abramovich never paints from reference; he also never plans a painting.
